HOUGHTON -- Eleven months in the Houghton County Jail is the sentence the judge gave to one of the men who stole an elderly woman's purse.  Twenty-year-old Michael Hylton of Hancock was in Houghton County Circuit Court Monday.

In August, a jury found Hylton guilty of larceny in a building.  The jury found Hylton not guilty of first degree home invasion.

Hylton apologized in court.

"I guarantee you'll never see me in handcuffs again.  Second, and probably most importantly, is my apology.  I need to apologize for what happened.  I'm a better man.  I think I went from a boy to a man.  I did it the wrong way, but you hear that saying 'better late than never' all the time and it's true," said Hylton.

Hylton received credit for 136 days already served.
