DELTA COUNTY -- The third Upper Peninsula Honor Flight took off from the Delta County Airport at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning and 76 World War II Veterans and their guardians are planning to have an unforgettable experience in Washington D.C.

About $92,000 was raised through a lot of fundraising efforts to send the U.P. vets on the trip. They will be touring the WWII memorials that were built in their honor. The oldest Veteran on board is 100 years old, and the youngest is 84 years old.

The Veterans say the experience will be very emotional when they see the monuments and think back on their wartime experiences.

"I think there's going to be a lot of crying and some sobbing, and probably a lot of tears," said Air Force Veteran Ken Hermanson. "It's going to be very, very shaky."

The Veterans will return at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday night. Please help welcome them at the airport hangar, which opens at 8 p.m.
