MARQUETTE -- Final preparations are underway for the upcoming annual Old Timers Hockey Tournament in Marquette.

For the past four years, players from all over the Upper Peninsula and as far away as Minnesota and Alaska have come to participate at the Lakeview Arena and Berry Events Center.

This year, 50 teams are competing, bringing the total to about 1,000 participants. Organizers say the beautiful fall season and love of the sport helps bring back participants each year.

"Everybody has such a great time when they do come here. Tournament is well run and everybody seems to enjoy themselves when they do come here in the fall of the U.P.," said organizer Ryan Riipi. "It's obviously a good time to come here."

Organizers are looking for volunteers to help with upkeep and the maintenance of the facilities. If you are interested in helping, head to the Lakeview Arena on Thursday at 5 p.m. The tournament begins Friday at 9 a.m.
