MARQUETTE -- Imagine an evening with local music. Well, that's how Music on Third street came about.
Lou Ann Balding with Forsberg Flowers had a vision.
"To have people strolling on a summer's eve, walking up and down Third Street, listening to different types of music," said Balding.
It started three years ago for the summer season as a way to get local musicians playing for the community, and it's grown ever since. So every fourth Thursday during the summer, you will find bands set up in front of different businesses on Third Street.
Not only is it an opportunity for musicians, but it also benefits businesses.
Black Rocks Brewery also hosts an open mic session. Andy Langlois, a brewer, says with Music on Third, they are getting more musicians and people stopping by. It means more business, a plus for the local economy.
"Experiencing the different venues out there. The different places, you know, where normally you would be at one spot on Third Street that you ever go is place x. Now its x, y, z. You kind of open your eyes and see that there's a lot going for such a little street," said Langlois.
More than twenty local bands have participated.
The season wraps up on Thursday, so it's the last chance to stop by this year. Music is from 5 to 7 p.m.
