MARQUETTE -- Saturday's rain didn't stop hundreds of people who came out to support an important cause in Marquette.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's started at the Marquette YMCA. The annual event raises thousands of dollars for the U.P. offices of the Alzheimer's Association. Programs and services there help those suffering from the disease and loved ones in getting care and resources.

"These funds are really crucial for us because we know right now across the U.P., there's more than 8,000 people with Alzheimer's disease," said Regional Director Ruth Almen.

"We're also trying to expand our programs for people with Alzheimer's, reaching out to people earlier than ever before and helping them understand, for them, what their choices are, what they can still do with their lives, how we can partner with them to help them do that."

Participants chose from two walks: a 3K with doggy stations and a shorter loop around the Y.
