MARQUETTE CO. -- Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff's Department say a person of interest has been identified in Friday's five bomb threats across Marquette County that police believe are connected.

The person of interest is believed to be connected to a suspicious package recovered during evacuation at Sawyer Medical Center and Sawyer International Airport Terminal. The package, found in a bathroom of the medical center, was disrupted using a robot with a water charge. The contents inside were assembled to replicate an explosive device, police said.

A suspicious backpack at the airport did not appear to be linked to the bomb threats.

North Star Academy, Sawyer International Airport, Sawyer Medical Center, Marquette General Hospital and Northern Michigan University were disrupted Friday when phone calls came in of bomb threats in all five facilities. No explosives were found at any of the buildings. All facilities are functioning as normal as of Saturday.

Those traveling out of Sawyer International Airport should check with the airlines on the schedules before arriving at the airport. Friday's evening flights were postponed until Saturday.

Agencies responding to assist on the scenes include: Sawyer International Personnel, Marquette County Rescue 131, The Escanaba Public Safety Department K-9, The Forsyth Township and fire departments, Northern Michigan Public Safety Department, Red Cross, and the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad.
