HANCOCK -- The first item on the agenda for the Hancock City Council meeting on Wednesday night was the proposed tax increase.
The council says the millage will be on the November ballot, and if it passes the maximum levied amount is 15 mills.
"It would be a huge mistake on our part if we tell them well this is what we want to spend it on because they'll look at the idea that for sure we will raise their taxes and that's not what we want them to think," said council member Lisa McKenzie. "It's a stopgap in case we need to because we want to do these things, but we also have to run the city."
Hancock City Police will no longer escort ORVs across the bridge. The council also said their water and sewer projects are almost finished.
There's a new Hancock bike and pedestrian committee and they want to gather information to make the city more bike and pedestrian friendly, and the newest city council member, Barry Givens, was sworn in.
