MARQUETTE -- A group of business, community and education leaders gathered in Marquette to think of new ways to enhance job security and future economic growth in the U.P.
The meeting gave the leaders an opportunity to brainstorm ways to help universities provide employers with a skilled labor force. The strategy session comes ahead of the Great Lakes Summit, an economic forum being held Friday at Northern Michigan University.
The keynote speaker, Jim Bazell, says educators need to collaborate with one another to produce skilled students.
"And how to sequence education programs so students have options while they're in high school to take college level courses. And also how to put certificates, associate degrees and universities, how to stack those different degrees together," said Bazell of the summit's goals.
