MARQUETTE -- The Superior Alliance for Independent Living held its third annual Walk and Roll fundraiser Wednesday at Mattson Lower Harbor Park. Runners, walkers and rollers came out in the soggy weather to help raise funds for the group that works to provide various forms of assistance to people with disabilities. Participants raised money before going for a half mile, 5k, or 10k stroll.

"We're from the U.P. so we brave any weather that comes our way. We actually have a great turnout for the weather being as not-so-friendly as it is," said Events Planner Jessica Manier. "So we're going to go out as a big group and just kind of walk as far as we can go, and if anyone gets too cold, we'll just turn right back around.

The rainy weather didn't dampen the spirits of those who participated. The group also provided snacks before and after the event.

The Superior Alliance will also be holding its ninth annual Action Day, Thursday, at Northern Michigan University. That event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
