ISHPEMING -- After almost a year, Bell Hospital is under new management.
Fifty-six-year-old Floyd Bounds is the new CEO and has been on the job for a week. He will serve this position for 18 months with an option for an extension.
"Well, I bring a great deal of experience to this position. However, I look at it as a learning opportunity, also, and I will definitely grow in this position like I have the others," said Bounds.
For the past 25 years, Bounds has worked with many small hospitals like Bell.
Hospital officials say he's experienced in enhancing hospital services and improving financial and operational efficiency. Those skills will come in handy as a June 2010 audit showed Bell Hospital had a seven million dollar loss in the previous fiscal year.
We asked Bounds if Bell Hospital will see any changes, like Marquette General Hospital (as a for-profit hospital). He said it's too early to even make those considerations.
"There are a number of things that I will be looking at and fine tuning as we go forward, but I don't have a specific plan yet at this point. I will be working closely with the Board of Directors," Bounds said.
Bounds says he doesn't see any upcoming job cuts. For now he's focusing on getting to know the operations of Bell Hospital, the workers, and the community.
