MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Police Department are treating the death of 34-year-old Shawn Dollar as suspicious.
"The way they found the body and the uncertainty of how he died makes it suspicious," said Marquette City Police Detective Captain Gordon Warchock.
The police identified the body found in a vacant Marquette building Friday as Dollar. He was reported missing on Thursday, but hadn't been seen since Saturday, September 8.
Police made the positive identification following an autopsy early Saturday morning.
Autopsy results showed that Dollar died as a result of bodily injury, but police say it was not caused by a gunshot or stab wound. The case is not being treated as a homicide at this time, according to authorities. Police said that a suspicious death investigation could have several outcomes.
"Saying it's a suspicious death doesn't automatically make it a homicide investigation, it's just not clear yet on what caused the injuries to Shawn Dollar and our job right now is to interview people, collect physical evidence and try to determine what caused it," Warchock added.
On Friday, a search party led to the discovery of Dollar's remains in a vacant building located on 231 W. Washington Street.
