MARQUETTE -- Churches in the Marquette area open their doors to the homeless overnight starting Sunday.

It's the Room at the Inn program. It involves a network of 13 churches of various denominations in the area that offer homeless people a meal and a place to stay from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Grace United Methodist Church is the first church on the list, but it changes each week.

Those coming for a Room at the Inn must be homeless, over 18, and sober.

Room at the Inn recently received a $10,000 grant.

This is the sixth year of Room at the Inn, and the program tends to see about 100 visitors a season.

"It's very needed in our community; we have over one thousand volunteers who give their time to Room at the Inn," said Pastor Chris Kostelansky, President Board of the Directors at the Room at the Inn. "It's a terrific program, and we make a difference in people's lives."
