NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- With the American embassy attacks in Libya and the protests in Cairo, Egypt, US troops in the Middle East are dug into some very tense situations.

On Tuesday in Libya four people were killed, including the US ambassador, when Muslim extremists stormed the embassy and set fire to the building.

Escanaba native Brian Kjellin is currently a sergeant with the Forsyth Township Police Department. He was part of a specially trained Marine force that's typically deployed during times like these. That group is called the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team, or FAST. He spoke about the unique conditions these Marines will likely face.

"I think the atmosphere is chaotic right now, but as the troops come over there, these FAST teams coming over there which I was a member of, they're going to be very focused on what their mission is and that mission is simply to go there and get that embassy back under control and the security under control," said Kjellin.

He also says the worst case scenario would be if the US embassies were vacated. This could encourage other nations to engage in similar riots.
