MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Ruffed Grouse season kicks off many small game hunting seasons and it starts soon.

The Department of Natural Resources reports that this upcoming season is looking good. Michigan is one of the most popular states for grouse hunting.

Your best bet for finding some are around young Aspen trees with a similar width, close to the size of a pool cue. DNR officials say that this season could potentially be even better than last year.

"What really kind of bodes well for the grouse is that we had a warm and dry spring so that means hatching success should be quite high," said DNR wildlife biologist Brian Roell.

Grouse hunting season begins on Saturday, September 15.
