MICHIGAMME -- Michigamme residents got more information on the Rio Tinto Eagle Mine Wednesday night. Representatives from Rio Tinto were on hand to talk about the Eagle Mine project and answer questions and concerns from residents.

Questions centered around the final product Rio Tinto would be producing, which will be nickel and copper concentrate. Rio Tinto highlighted its local hiring efforts and the introduction of a new community scorecard.

"The purpose of these community forums is to update the community on what's happening at the mine and mill and also we're rolling out what we call a community score card," said Simon Nish of the Rio Tinto Eagle Mine. "We are inviting the community, having heard from us on how we've performed in certain areas in the last six months, to score us and when we get the scores we will then collect them all together and report them publically."

Future forums are planned for L'Anse and Marquette. The next forum is scheduled for September 17 in Humboldt township.
