MARQUETTE -- The Superior Upper Peninsula Chapter of the American Red Cross celebrated their new Marquette office Monday morning.

Representatives of the Lake Superior Community Partnership were on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony outside the Red Cross location on Coles Drive in Marquette, behind Range Bank. The new office opened about a year ago and is the site of health and safety programs, like first-aid and CPR training.

It's also where disaster management efforts are coordinated, like the recent deployment of Upper Peninsula volunteers to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac, according to Jeff Selesky, the Emergency Services Program Manager in Marquette.

"The Superior Upper Peninsula chapter has actually deployed seven volunteers to the disaster area to work with the people down there," said Selesky.

To learn more about the programs offered at the new office or to get volunteer information, call the office at (906) 228-3659 and leave a message if no one answers.
