ISHPEMING -- It's a real turn of events, specifically on the lathe this weekend in Ishpeming.

A professional wood turner was the guest at the Superiorland Wood Turners monthly get together.

Tom Larson, from Brainerd, Minnesota, was sharing his experiences of 20 years of woodturning with members of the group.

Eight members took part in Sunday's demonstration.  They were shown the fine craftsmanship and skill needed in taking a block of wood and turning it into a work of art.

"It's a common learning process and wood is not forgiving.  So every piece of wood you pick, you need to do something different with.  And the best part of lathe turning is kind of instant gratification," said Larson.

There are 45 members in the Superiorland Wood Turners group which meets the first Tuesday of each month at Bell Forest Products on Hematite Drive in Ishpeming.  In October though, they'll have a display and show off their work at the Peter White Public Library in the Community Room, Front Street in Marquette.
