MARQUETTE -- The YMCA of Marquette County is adding three sessions to its diabetes prevention program, and they are looking for people to fill those classes.
With help from the Center for Disease Control, the YMCA has brought a program that works with people who have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. The program incorporates exercise and diet changes to help prevent diabetes. They'll be adding sessions in Chocolay Township and at the YMCA facility in Negaunee.
"The YMCA diabetes prevention program is a nationally-led program through the CDC. The YMCA of Marquette County is very blessed to have the program in our community; the success rates are just amazing," said Health and Wellness Leader Jenna Zdunek. "And the goal of the program, it's a lifestyle change program, an intense behavior change program to decrease those risks of developing diabetes."
The classes run for 16 weeks with monthly follow-up sessions. The cost is $75 for members and $125 for non-members. The YMCA is hoping to begin the new sessions at the end of September or beginning of October.
To sign up for the classes, they ask that you call the YMCA at (906) 227-9622.
