EWEN -- A propane explosion is the possible cause of a small fire in Ontonagon County on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department responded to a small structure fire in Ewen at around 3:24 p.m. According to police, the renter of the home said that she felt the house shake and then smelled smoke.

The house was shaken when police believe a small propane leak in the basement was ignited while the renter was doing dishes. The south wall of the building was pushed out about 18 to 24 inches, while the east and west walls were forced out about eight inches.

Nobody was injured and the sheriff's deputy was able to extinguish a small fire and turn off the utilities.
