CALUMET -- Students of Calumet, Keweenaw, and Laurium are celebrating their brand new greenhouse.  The greenhouse is an addition to the garden the school built three years ago and their goal is to use the greenhouse to help extend the growing season.

It will also give students the ability to learn about nutrition and healthy eating habits.

"Their plan is to start plants in the winter and early spring, transplant into the garden, and also have some sales at farmers markets of plants so that they can help other community gardeners," said Ray Sharp of the Western U.P. Health Department.

Throughout the school year students will use the garden and greenhouse as an outdoor classroom.  The greenhouse was built by Snow Country Greenhouse and the Western U.P. Health Department donated $3,500 to help build it.
