ISHPEMING -- Members of the Ishpeming City Council are calling for the removal of an inactive wind turbine in front of the Ishpeming Housing Commission.

At Wednesday's meeting, city council members Claudia Demarest, Elaine Racine, and Mike Tall said they were concerned that if the turbine remains inactive, the city could become responsible for it.

Ishpeming Housing Commissioner Evelyn Valente-Heikkila says those fears are unfounded.

"I don't know where they would ever come to that conclusion.  And even if the company said, we don't want it, you can take it down, I have contractors lined up who would be willing to take it down for salvage," said Valente-Heikkila.

The turbine is owned Clean Green Energy, LLC.  They've told city officials the turbine will be disassembled and replaced with a more efficient model.

They have not set a date for that to happen yet.
