MUNISING -- A Munising man is heading to trial, facing charges in a pit bull dog attack.

John Janes, 48, was in Alger County Circuit Court this morning for a pre-trial hearing. Janes is charged with having dangerous animals and being a habitual offender. The alleged attack happened at the end of May, when police say his unattended dog mauled an seven-year-old girl.

A plea agreement could not be reached, so the case will now go before a jury. A trial date has not been set.

According to police, the dog has been destroyed.
