The official turn of the season starts on the Autumnal Equinox, September 22, but for meteorological records, the seasons are divided into three even months. So for us, summer is over after August as far as records are concerned, and this past summer was the fourth warmest on record in the UP. Check out this review from the National Weather Service.
Sunday's forecast should be pleasant and warm. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. As the high pressure system moves eastward, winds will steadily increase out of the south and make it warmest out west. Skies should be mostly sunny.
With a persistent south wind and an increase in cloud cover, Sunday night's lows will be mild in the 50s to low 60s. An incoming low pressure system will also bring a chance for rain overnight into Monday. Areas like Ontonagon, Ironwood, and Houghton will be the first to see any rain or possibly a late night thundershower.
Your Labor Day forecast isn't ideal as most people will likely want to do something outside. As far as temperatures are concerned, they should be warm around 80, but there won't be too much sunshine and scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely. Rainfall amounts are looking to be on the light side for now, but isolated areas under a thunderstorm could receive heavier amounts.
As rain moves east throughout the day, Monday night will see lingering showers and thundershowers east, but will steadily clear up overnight.Lows will again be mild in the 50s to mid 60s.
Tuesday will be a little warm with more chances for rain, but it will be the start of a cooling trend. Highs will likely be in the 60s after Wednesday.
