MARQUETTE -- Some shelter animals in Marquette were looking for a home on Sunday.
The Upper Peninsula Welfare Animal Shelter held a fundraiser in the parking lot of Mares-Z-Doates. They had a few cats and dogs on site, but those interested could also grab a voucher and head to the shelter to adopt. Several animals were adopted at 50 percent off.
The event also was in preparation for their biggest fundraiser on Sept. 8, Strutt Your Mutt.
"It's a great time to adopt because you still have some summertime left, it's a good time to get the dogs out for walks and get connected with them and then get your pet into your home by the winter so you have a cuddly pet for the winter," said UPAWS Manager Lareina VanStrien.
Pets can still be adopted Sunday for half off the original price at the shelter.
