MUNISING -- Three women were honored Thursday night at the Alger County Heritage Center at the 18th Annual Alger County Women of Honor observance, where women who have enriched lives through work, hobbies, or volunteerism are celebrated.

This year, the women are Sharon Nelson-Curtice, Marcella Flanders-Carlson, and Peggy Carberry.

Friends and family members packed into the Heritage Center's basement to be a part of the celebration.

"These women that I've honored in the past and even these three, it's like, I never knew anything about them until somebody nominated them.  And it's like, I never knew you did all this. They just do it in the shadows, and they just think it's life.  They just do it on as an every day thing. To me, what some of these women have done is like, wow," said Event Coordinator, Mary Jo Cook.

The Woman of Honor observance celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gave women the right to vote.
