MARQUETTE -- A rare artistic treasure is on display at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. The exhibit is called My Father's Love. It is the work of a homeless artist named Ed Lantzer from the Kalkaska area who passed away in 2009.
He spent 30 years of his life completing the wooden panels. His wish was that his work be on display free of charge.
"Ed would always say, 'You decide, you decide if it's a spiritual work to you. You decide if just mathematically it can't be done,'" said Diane Gauthier, an organizer who helped bring the Lantzer's work to Marquette. "Every time you come in and you view, you will find something different. There are secrets in these panels that we have not even discovered yet."
There are 30 panels that weigh about 400 pounds each. More than 150 species of wood were used. The works will be on display at St. Peter Cathedral until the end of September.
