MARQUETTE -- The YMCA of Marquette County on Pine Street in Marquette will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday.

The "Y" will be undergoing an annual fall cleaning.  The facility will be closed to the public from Wednesday to Monday, September 3, opening at 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 4.

They will be doing a thorough cleaning of the entire building as well as some maintenance.  Walls will be painted and the gym floor will be stripped and resurfaced.  The pool will be emptied and cleaned and a pool lift will be installed, making it the first Y in the U.P. to have a handicap-accessible pool.

"It's so important for us to do this just so that we're a sanitary, clean environment, and this is one time a year where we really, from top to bottom, scrub and clean the Y up for our members," said Y CEO Lisa Coombs-Gerou.

There will also be some new equipment and other new surprises for members.  The Y facility on Pine Street in Marquette will be the only Y facility affected.
