MARQUETTE -- The 43-year-old Gwinn woman accused of embezzling from the Forsyth Township office was in court Monday.
Christina Kay Denessen is charged with felony embezzlement between $1,000 and $20,000. Denessen was an employee at the Forsyth Township office.
According to the Michigan State Police, it happened last year between July and December. During the investigation, police say she admitted taking some money for gambling.
"Initially she denied taking any money, but ultimately she admitted that she did take eleven hundred dollars from a deposit on December 21," said Michigan State Police Detective Lieutenant, Todd Johnston.
"It's pretty clear to me that there is probable cause to believe the defendant did, in fact, embezzle money that she came into possession of in her position with the Township of Forsyth," said Marquette County District Court Judge, Dennis Girard.
Denessen was bound over to circuit court where she'll be arraigned September 7.
She remains free on bond.
