SANDS TWP. -- The Sands Speedway is holding a canned food drive over the next two Saturdays.

The speedway will be accepting canned donations during race hours fromto 8 p.m. Saturday and Sept. 1. All non-perishable items can be placed in a trailer being donated by Midway Rentals. The food will be sent to the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul society where it'll be distributed to those in need.

"Some people have a chance to give stuff but maybe don't know where to do it," said Stan Wittler, the track manager. "If they're coming out to the track, they can drop it off there, and we'll make sure it gets to the right place."

This is the first year the Speedway is holding a canned food drive, but it won't be the last.
