It's a hot one for the UP. Saturday's highs will be around 90. That's more than 15 degrees above average. The record is 89 set back in 1969 that we could possibly break. The heat is thanks to a strong southerly flow ahead of a low pressure system bringing lots of warm air from the south. Skies should be mostly to completely sunny, but expect more clouds later from the west.
Saturday night will see stronger cloud cover with some rain and perhaps even storms. A cold front is entering the area later in the evening, but it looks like it will stall out a bit and not go anywhere very quickly, meaning that it will not be a powerful forcing for thunderstorms. It will likely bring some widespread rain for Saturday night through most of Sunday. Saturday night's lows will fall into the 60s.
On Sunday, expect rain along the front as it slowly moves eastward. Highs will be less warm around 80 as winds shift out of the west. Skies will clear up behind the front.
Sunday night's lows will be in the mid 50s to 60s. Winds will lighten up and remain out of the west. Skies will be clear.
On Monday, conditions should be clear and temperatures should return to seasonable averages. By Wednesday we could see more warm temperatures in the high 80s.
Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Isaac is the talk of the meteorological town. It looks like it will make American landfall by Sunday or Monday and will likely strengthen to hurricane status. Tropical Depression Joyce is now completely dissipated.
In other hurricane news, it was 20 years ago in August of 1992 that Hurricane Andrew wreaked havoc on Florida and other parts of the southeast. Check out this story from the NWS in Miami.
