MARQUETTE -- First year students at Northern Michigan University began moving in to their residence halls on Thursday.
The day also marked the kick-off of the school's 13th annual laptop distribution at the Superior Dome. As part of their tuition, each full-time student is given a laptop loaded with software they'll need for the academic program they're pursuing.
The school says the program, called ThinkPad University, gives all students the chance to excel.
"You put the technology in the students' hands, give everybody the same technology, and everything works out better," said Scott Krah of NMU. "ThinkPad University is just a one-on-one program where every student has access to a Thinkpad."
Notebook distribution will continue on Friday morning at 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the evening.
