WEST BRANCH TOWNSHIP -- A 51-year-old man died in a rollover crash near the village of Ralph on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Michigan State Police, Gene Lafave, of Iron Mountain, was driving on County Road 426 when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and police believe excessive speed and failure to wear a seat belt were contributing factors in this fatal crash.

Troopers were assisted by Star Ambulance Service, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department and the West Branch Volunteer Fire Department.
