MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- Dozens of people took advantage of free pet adoptions in Marquette Wednesday.
It was the 5th annual "Collars for a Cause" event at Fox Marquette on US-41 in Marquette Township. Fox Marquette covered all the adoption expenses, including vaccinations.
All of the UPAWS animals, from cats to pet rats, were available for adoption. The free adoptions help the animal shelter manage the number of animals in their care.
"This really is a perfect time for us, every year in August, to help us with our numbers, to get these animals into loving homes, because they do not ask to be homeless. They want to be in loving homes with a family," said Anne Brownell of UPAWS.
The event went until 7 p.m. and 21 pets were adopted during the campaign.
