MARQUETTE -- A week-long acting camp is putting kids center stage.

The Lake Superior Theatre has put on the Drama and Dreams summer camp. The camp is for kids of all ages. The youth are given acting lessons and various exercises which counselors say help overcome stage fright and improve public speaking.

The kids also had a chance to audition for roles in their upcoming performance.

"It's a really healthy thing," said Patrick Bradley, a counselor. "A lot of kids have some anxiety issues, and getting up in front of people and talking becomes difficult for them. This makes it very easy because we get the kids together and we have them work on the same project and it becomes a very supportive thing."

The performance is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette. The event is free for the public.
