MARQUETTE -- Two time cancer survivor and head coach of the NMU hockey team, Walt Kyle, will once again put on a walk for cancer in Marquette.

The annual Walt Kyle Mile is now in its fifth year.  Proceeds support cancer patients and their families staying at the Beacon House during treatment.

Last year, the walk raised $11,000 for Beacon House.  Fifty walkers have already registered for the three-mile trek.

"We understand that different people with different illnesses or different family situations, they all need something kind of special, so here in our cancer lounge, this is a wonderful, very quiet, tranquil place to get away and to just be with people who are experiencing the same thing that you are," said Mary Dowling of the Beacon House.

The walk takes place Saturday with a registration at the Berry Events Center at 8 a.m.

It costs $10 to sign up and $20 to receive a t-shirt.
