Saturday saw a fair amount of rain in some locations as that cold front passed. In fact, the National Weather Service set a new record for rainfall on August 18 of 0.61". Most of the UP received less than half an inch, if any rain, but Rudyard did get 0.81".
Sunday will be much drier behind the front, and a bit cooler. Highs will be mainly in the 60s as winds pick up out of the north. It will be coolest near Lake Superior and warmer in the southern UP where it may reach up to 70. Skies will see some clouds early in the day, but it should be mostly to completely sunny by late afternoon as high pressure moves into the area.
Sunday night's lows will be cold for August normal temps. Most lows will be in the 40s, but it should be more mild near the lakes, and coldest in the western interior into the 30s. For now, it's not quite looking like it will reach freezing, but it will be close. Skies will be mostly clear and winds will shift out of the west.
Monday will see a slight warm up with highs around 70 as winds will be generally out of the west and skies should be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. There is a slight chance for an isolated rain shower in the afternoon and evening.
Monday night's lows will mainly be in the 40s, and again milder near the lakes. With slightly higher dew points than Sunday, don't be surprised if there a little bit of fog. Skies should be partly cloudy to mostly clear and winds will be light out of the west.
On Tuesday it gets warmer with seasonable highs in the 70s. There should be lots of 70 throughout the week. Wednesday night may see some storms along a weak cold front, and Friday is also looking like it may be a bit stormy with an incoming low pressure system.
Speaking of storms, last year on August 19, the UP saw some very severe weather and two tornadoes. Check out Sunday's weather history from the NWS.
