MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Since it was formed in 2009, the Land Bank Authority of Marquette County has been helping return foreclosed houses to the market.

Officials with the Land Bank Authority describe the organization as an economic development tool within the residential community. The purpose of the group is to offer tax-foreclosed houses back to the taxpayers.

Instead of offering the properties in a public auction, the Land Bank Authority works with potential buyers on financing options.

"This way we're creating more affordable housing opportunities; we can get a much bigger audience for somebody who's looking for a modest home that needs to get bank financing. We can now market those homes to them," said Anne Giroux, Marquette County Treasurer.
