MARQUETTE -- The Marquette-Alger Great Start Collaborative held a fundraiser with flavor at Upfront & Company Thursday.
Michigan craft beer was the order of the night. The group was raising money for support of safe sleep practices for infants and babies. Five beer tasting stations were set up featuring beers from Michigan, like the Keweenaw Brewing Company. The collaborative works to coordinate local agencies for family support.
"We all look at the needs of the community first, then from there we start to sit down with people, come together and talk about what are the concerns, what are the needs, how can we address them," said Kathy Lammi of the Great Start Collaborative. "As everyone is sitting around the table, great ideas come up, and that's how we make our decisions."
The Great Start Collaborative will use the money to purchase sleep sacks and cribs for infants. They are also working on a multimedia campaign to spread the word about sleep safety.
