MARQUETTE -- Audiences at the Beaumier Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University were treated to traditional folk music and historical stories Wednesday.

Trae McMaken has spent most of his life playing music and studying the rich history of the Great Lakes. He brought his talents to the Upper Peninsula as part of the heritage center's current exhibit about Beaver Island.

"I hope people take away a renewed interest in where they're from and a pride in their own area," said Fiddler and Storyteller Trae McMaken.

McMaken's performance incorporated a variety of fiddle styles including Irish, Scottish and Michigan old time.
