WAKEFIELD -- Police are warning Upper Peninsula residents of a new phone scam that poses as the medical alert service Lifeline.

Michigan State Police reported that the caller offers a one-day deal where the $400 fee is waived and the victim will only be charged $39.95 a month. The scammer then attempts to get personal information from the victim.

Police said that Lifeline does not solicit over the phone. If you receive this type of phone call, do not give out any information, and hang up immediately.
