MARQUETTE -- Parishioners at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette stepped out of their normal Sunday worship.

It's part of the church's One in Christ Sunday, where they worship with Finnish-African gospels. The songs were written in 1981 for African and Finnish exchange students. The sounds are part of a call and response music in Africa.

"You get the feeling that we are not isolated, we have a connection to the rest of the world when we have something like this happen," said musician Judy Quirk.

"In fact, lots of times we in the U.P. think, 'Here we are,' so it's great to be able to say, 'Yes, Christians are much more than here.'"

Musicians used singing, a guitar, an accordion and drums to express the music.
