ESCANABA -- The Northern Lights YMCA in Escanaba has met its Strong Kids goal, which was $105,000. Right now they're at about $106,000.

The money will go toward YMCA programs and memberships. Their mission is to provide opportunities regardless of one's ability to pay. About 600 kids were helped last year.

The YMCA is still taking contributions so they're able to provide more assistance to the community.

"I think it really means a lot to these kids and a lot to these families that they're able to come and use the facility or have a membership here. I think it means the world to them," said Mary Gauthier, a human resources coordinator.

The campaign will run until the end of this year. Officials say they received overwhelming generosity from those who contributed.
