It'll be held rain or shine

CORNELL -- Mark your calendars, because the second Breakfast on the Farm in the Upper Peninsula will be in Cornell on July 28.

It'll be hosted by the VanDrese Dairy and Potato Farm. It's a family event that's being put on by a third-generation family-owned farm.

Breakfast on the Farm includes a free breakfast that'll be served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There'll also be farm tours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It's really for people to learn where their food comes from,” explains MSU Extension Educator, Warren Schauer. “It doesn’t just come from the grocery store. They’ll learn how their food's produced and see how it grows in a safe, wholesome manner. And they get to meet the farmers that grow their food."

Participants will get to see the dairy facilities. This is the first Breakfast on the Farm that actually has potatoes as part of the farming operation.

“Some we dig right off the field,” says farm co-owner, Galen VanDrese. “But most of them are in the warehouse. We package the potatoes and ship them to different locations. We want to thank all the people who buy local and support local farmers."

VanDrese says his family owns 700 acres. They rent an additional 200-250 acres. And they have at least 100 milking cows. Breakfast on the Farm will be held rain or shine.
