ALGER COUNTY -- Wednesday marked day two of the Thomas Murdock trial in Alger County Circuit Court, the man who's charged with Involuntary Manslaughter for the death of his girlfriend Lisa Hardwick in June 2011.
The jury heard a taped interview from Murdock the night of the crash.
In the tearful conversation, Murdock says he and Hardwick got into an argument, and she got out of the car.
He says he never meant to hurt her.
"I put the truck in reverse, stepped on the gas, looked back, backed up. That's when I started feeling there was someone or something. I was hitting something. And I stopped, I got out, go to see that Lisa was run over," said Murdock in the recording.
Murdock's blood alcohol level was .16, which is twice the legal limit.
"He was thinking out loud almost the whole time we were there. I can't say I heard Trooper Nolan ask him a question and he didn't respond, but he was saying be backed over her and it was an accident and he didn't see her. He was real upset about it," said a Michigan State Trooper who arrested Murdock the night of the crash.
He faces a number of charges including Involuntary Manslaughter and Driving While Intoxicated Causing Death.
The trial continues Thursday with expert witnesses and a trip to where the crash happened.
