MARQUETTE -- With just over a week of being open to the public, the owners of Hampton Inn in Marquette say bookings are filling up, fast.

The group officially celebrated opening day with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning. The hotel opens in the midst of the area's busiest season. So far, most of their guests have been from the Midwest, vacationing in the U.P.

Employees say their 84 rooms, including business suites, are designed to also attract a corporate crowd doing business in Marquette.

"We started out where we weren't able to take reservations, it's a Hilton policy, but now we're live and reservations have been picking up each day," said Tim Larson, co-owner of Hampton Inn.

"It'll be really busy at the end of the month for Art on the Rocks weekend, one of the busiest summer weekends in Marquette."

The Hampton Inn is located in Marquette's Founders Landing, on the Waterfront.
