KINGSFORD -- Dozens of teams from all across the United States came to Kingsford on Saturday to compete in the 8th annual U.P. Hog Wild Barbeque.

A total of 30 teams, from Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Michigan participated in the barbeque contest. The teams were judged on a one-to-nine scale based on the food's appearance, taste and tenderness.

There were four food categories the teams had to barbeque.

"That would be chicken, followed by pork, followed by ribs, followed by pork butt, and then finally beef brisket," said Dale Newstron, the contest's official. "And the cumulative score will be the grand champion."

Some of the proceeds from Saturday's event will go toward a diabetes charity for children.
