HANCOCK -- The Hancock City Council has approved a proposal for the November ballot that could raise taxes for local residents.
The council says the city hasn't levied the charter allowed, 15 mills for taxes, since 1991. Since then there's been a steady decline in revenue.
If voters pass the increase, it would give the city an extra $132,000. Council member John Haeussler says if the voters pass the proposal, it doesn't mean the city will raise taxes immediately. It means the city would have the option to raise taxes if they need to.
