Police arrest man for possible embezzlement and forgery

MANISTIQUE -- A Schoolcraft County man has been arrested on charges of forgery and embezzlement from the Manistique Moose Lodge.

Ray Hayford, 55, was taken into custody on Wednesday after a joint investigation between the Michigan State Police and the Schoolcraft County Sheriff's Department.

Hayford faces four counts of forgery, each punishable by up to 14 years in prison. He was also charged with embezzlement over $1,000 but under $20,000. The embezzlement is a felony which could result in 10 years of prison time.

Hayford is being held in the Schoolcraft County Jail.
