ISHPEMING -- Ishpeming residents were able to tour some of their neighbors' homes on Sunday.

It was the first-ever Lake Bancroft Home and Garden Tour. The City of Ishpeming normally holds a historical tour, but chose not to this year, so a group of women from the Ishpeming High School Alumni Association decided to organize their own tour. For $10, visitors toured five homes around the lake and received some ice cream. All proceeds benefit the alumni association's scholarship fund.

Aside from being a fundraiser, the tour also allowed neighbors to mingle and learn about the history of their neighborhood.

"Around the lake, it's a walking route here in town. A lot of people go for walks around the lake, and so a lot of people have been stopping by, as we've added onto our house, wondering what it's like inside. So it's kind of neat because now some of these people are getting a chance to take a look at it," said Anne Giroux, an alumna.

The tours were from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon. A single tour took about one hour.
