MARQUETTE -- Downtown Marquette will be alive with a variety of local music this weekend.

Twelve groups will perform Friday and Saturday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Marquette Commons and from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Upfront and Company.

The Michigan-based bands are taking part in the first ever Sekoitus Music Festival. The groups play everything from rock to hip-hop to punk.

"In Marquette, it's kind of hard to get a crowd sometimes or organize shows, so I think this will be a good opportunity for some of these bands to expose themselves a little more," said Co-organizer Nicholas Erickson.

For the weekend's full schedule, check out the music festival's Facebook page.
